🏢 1. What It Is The Student Visa is the primary immigration route for international students aged 16 or over who wish to study on a further or higher education course in the UK. This visa allows a student to live in the UK for the duration of their course.

The sponsoring institution must be a licensed Student Sponsor. The length of the visa depends on the length of the course, and in many cases, it allows the holder to work part-time during term and full-time during holidays.

📜 2. Who Can Apply An individual can apply for a Student Visa if they:

  • Have received an unconditional offer of a place on an eligible course from a licensed Student Sponsor.
  • Are 16 years of age or older (applicants aged 16 or 17 need parental consent).
  • Can demonstrate that they genuinely intend to study in the UK and will leave at the end of their authorised stay.
  •

🔑 3. Key Requirements The Student Visa application is based on a points system, and applicants must meet all requirements to be successful. The main ones are:

  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS): This is the most crucial document. It is a unique reference number provided by the educational institution that confirms the student has an unconditional offer for an eligible course.
  • Financial Requirement (Maintenance): The applicant must prove they have enough money to pay for their first year of course fees and meet a set living cost requirement. For courses in London, this is £1,483 per month (up to 9 months), and outside London, it is £1,136 per month (up to 9 months). The funds must be held in a bank account for at least 28 consecutive days.
  • English Language Proficiency: The applicant must prove they can read, write, speak, and understand English to the required level, typically CEFR Level B2 for degree-level courses and B1 for below-degree level. This is usually proven by passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT).
