🏢 1. What It Is The Skilled Worker Visa is the primary immigration route for foreign nationals who wish to come to the UK to work in a specific skilled job. This visa requires the applicant to have a job offer and formal sponsorship from a UK employer that holds a valid Home Office Sponsor Licence.

It operates on a points-based system, and a successful visa holder can bring their dependent family members with them. After five years in the UK on this route, individuals may become eligible to apply for settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain).

📜 2. Who Can Apply An individual is eligible to apply for this visa if they:

  • Have a confirmed job offer for a genuine vacancy from a licensed UK sponsor.
  • The role they have been offered is on the government's list of eligible occupations.
  • Are applying from outside the UK, or in most cases, are already in the UK on a different visa and are eligible to switch to the Skilled Worker route.
  •

🔑 3. Key Requirements To qualify for a Skilled Worker Visa, an applicant must score a total of 70 points from a combination of mandatory and tradeable criteria. The core requirements are:

  • Sponsorship (20 Points - Mandatory): Must have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from a licensed employer.
  • Job at an Appropriate Skill Level (20 Points - Mandatory): The job must be skilled to at least RQF Level 3 (equivalent to A-levels).
  • English Language Proficiency (10 Points - Mandatory): The applicant must prove they can read, write, speak, and understand English to at least CEFR Level B1.
  • Salary (20 Points - Tradeable): The salary for the role must meet or exceed both a general salary threshold (e.g., £38,700 per year, or lower for certain categories) and the specific "going rate" for that occupation, whichever is higher. Points may be traded if the salary is lower but the applicant qualifies as a "new entrant" or has a relevant PhD.
